Wilmington Riverfest an Annual Fun-Filled Festival
October 2nd, 2009It is that time of year again. Riverfest begins today and continues through the weekend along Wilmington’s historic river front. Along with spring’s Azalea Festival, fall’s Riverfest is one of the highlights for the year for family fun in southeastern North Carolina.
Wilmington is just a short drive north of our real estate community. Rivers Edge residents enjoy going up to Wilmington for shopping, arts, food and fun year round but during Riverfest friends and neighbors get together to do it all at the festival. Join us for 2009 Riverfest October 3-4.
The majority of the activities are free and family oriented. Beginning at 8am, the kids’ zone has a multitude of activities designed to keep your children healthy and active while preserving the ultimate goal: fun. A recent addition to River Fest is the Invasion of the Pirates! In an effort to put more “river” into River Fest, it won’t be uncommon to see swashbucklers amidst the crowd. Everyone is encouraged to dress in their own pirate garb and enter the pirate costume contest. In addition, there will also be a treasure hunt, a great way to bring the whole family together.
Riverfest features 160 craft vendors, concessions, fireworks, and exhibits. The river event takes place along the downtown Riverwalk.
Join us at Riverside Park for the Shallotte Farmers Market!
September 15th, 2009
Farmer's Market Sign
Did you know Shallotte has a Farmer’s Market? Saturday’s from 8am till Noon in the park located on the corner of Main St. and Whiteville Rd you will find a great selection of local produce and goods. Spend some time at the Market and you will meet interesting people from around the area, run into your Rivers Edge neighbors and be entertained by live music. The atmosphere is what you would expect from this coastal town, located under a nice canopy of trees and adjacent to the Shallotte River.

Produce
The Shallotte Farmer’s Market offers different selections each week as the variety of produce comes in and out of its growing season. Some of the products you will find there include fresh vegetables, fruits, berries, arts and crafts, flowers, plants, eggs, seafood, and baked goods. All items at the market are produced locally by the person selling it. Customers can talk directly with the farmers, artists, growers and crafters to ask any questions they may have.

Herbs & Flowers
The market is now in its fourth year and continues to grow. For example, a recent grant was issued to the town of Shallotte to build a storage building & canopies for the market. Take the time to support the local community and visit the Shallotte Farmer’s Market before the growing season is over!

Live Music
Where: Riverside Park at Corner of Hwy 130 (Whiteville Rd) and Main St., behind Chamber of Commerce, next to Shallotte Plaza
When: Saturdays, May through October, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Golf Course is Looking Great!
July 28th, 2009
On August 1, 2009 play will resume on the Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course after being closed for two months to upgrade all of its greens. Rivers Edge Golf continues to provide one of the most scenic and if you are playing from the back, one of the most challenging golf courses in the country. Did you know that Rivers Edge was featured in the 2007 rankings from Golf Digest listing Rivers Edge as the 62nd best public golf course to play in the United States?
Rivers Edge decided to replace its greens to improve the quality of play on this prestigious golf course. For those interested, the new type of grass being used on our greens is called Seashore Paspalum. It is a southeastern coastal grass that does very well in areas where water is high in salinity. This grass will be perfect for all of our greens because of our location just two miles from the Atlantic Ocean and especially for the seven holes located directly on the tidal waters of the Shallotte River.
The GOLF COURSE IS LOOKING GREAT so take the time to come and see us and enjoy a round on one of the most unique golfing experiences you will ever have the privilege of playing.
